Increased Engagement

Totaljobs is one of the UK’s leading e-recruitment platforms. Users typically visited only once and needed help finding supporting content and services. The platform needed to be personalised toĀ guide candidates to content and services to assist them in their careers and to increase overall engagement and job applications.

Approach

The initial step involved a comprehensive exploration of the problem space. Collaborating with the product, we meticulously mapped our existing services, facilities, and discernible user states. Subsequently, we aligned business and user goals with each identified user state, methodically categorising available services and functions. This systematic approach established a foundational framework, laying the groundwork to inform potential solutions.

Following the workshop, I conducted an in-depth market analysis, benchmarking different personalisation approaches. Collaborating closely with product insight and analytics teams, I quantified and meticulously refined these ideas, ensuring a data-driven and strategic approach to our pursuit of enhanced personalisation.

I created a set of wireframes, which we guerilla-tested. The results revealed that users successfully recognized the wireframes as a homepage and grasped the personalised nature derived from their on-site actions. However, it became evident that the language employed in the wireframes required fine-tuning, particularly in the section headings and alert cards, as they lacked sufficient context.

Challenge

The diverse content spread across the site necessitated a more cohesive approach, mainly as isolated teams had generated it. This fragmentation posed challenges in consolidating the correct information to effectively cater to individual user needs.

Another obstacle involvedĀ devising a streamlined process that would empower these teams to update content autonomously, eliminating the reliance on development resources.

Outcome

Revamped notification modules designed for dynamic user states, customisable triggers, and personalised landing pages to guide users towards their next best action. All modules would be easily updated through a user-friendly Content Management System (CMS), enabling meticulous tracking, testing, and refinement of interactions, eliminating the necessity for ongoing development support.
