Platform Migration

Jobsite is a UK-focused job board consisting of 6 different brands. The organisation needed to retire the Jobsite platform and seamlessly migrate its user base to Totaljobs, ensuring minimal disruption to its users using the platform.

Approach

I created user flows for both platforms to better understand the core red routes and the nuances between the two platforms. After presenting the flows to leadership, I created a new proposal working with product, research and tech leads, incorporating the suspected pain points and potential transition areas between the two platforms. I validated our assumptions by user-testing prototypes of the suspected problem areas.

With these findings, I met again with leadership to reevaluate our development efforts and ensure our work had maximum impact.

Challenge

The project was under a tight deadline and budget. This meant decisions needed to be made quickly and with strong confidence. I ensured that our recruiters and candidates would receive minimal disruption whilst transitioning between the platforms.

With over twenty-two development teams working on the project, ensuring clear communication and an aligned approach to the work was another challenge. I had to present work on a regular basis not only to leadership but to all teams involved using the user flows as a single source of truth.

The workload has also started becoming unmanageable for one designer, and I requested the support of another senior designer who would be focused on the B2B element of the project with me leading on the overall initiative.

Outcome

We successfully migrated the platforms within the budgeted time frames with minimal disruption to the user experience.

Development efforts were focused on the user red routes. Candidates would cross over from Jobsite to Totaljobs when viewing a job. At the point of application, the user would select a profile from either platform to continue their application, reducing duplicated profiles.

On the recruiter platform, migration happened at the point of sign-in. Initially, I was given onboarding and an explanation of the benefits due to the more sensitive nature of this audience. An account manager would contact Enterprise clients and manually migrate them. Another area of focus would also be on migrating the most used features from Jobsite, such as boolean search and candidate recommender; this also provided benefits to customers using the Totaljobs platform.
